나는 몰랐다
응달에 박혀 밟히고 채이며 나뒹굴다가
네모로 찍혀 가마에 구워질 때만 해도
왜 그래야만 하는 줄 몰랐다
한여름, 아스콘 길가에 누워 기름 냄새 맡기 전에는
밟혀도 웃을 수 있다는 것을 몰랐고
발자국, 등지고 멀어지고 나서야
마주보는 것이 사랑인 줄 알았다
까마득한 머리 위, 대못 박힌 십자가 안아보기 전에는
사철, 벽에 붙어 있다는 것이
희생인 줄 몰랐고
달려드는 비바람 맞아보고 나서야
서로 기대고 산다는 것이
행복인 줄 알았다
여드름 같은 모에 부딪쳐 울기도
금 가 시퍼런 날 세우기도
깨져 옆구리가 시리기도 했지만
멀쩡한 속, 더 아파하는 줄
나는 정말 몰랐다
활짝 핀 불꽃 속에
세웠던 각(角) 모두 내려놓고
바람 탄 학의 울음처럼 훨훨 날고 나서야
왜 그래야만 하는가 알았다
